Just be really careful with these old speedometers.. the plastic needle and
the plastic lenses of main beam and indicators are very brittle and attempting
to remove any of them will expose the risk of them breaking. Take special care
with the needle and just grasp it via the center where it pushes onto the
shaft and twist while pulling up to detach the needle from the shaft. If you
try and lever the needle itself in any direction or seemingly just look at it
funny it will surely break.
Note also that the trip cable does not and should not be removed prior to
removing the speedo innards or you will break that too. If you need to take
the trip cable off for some reason you can do that once the innards are out
and you can see how the clip fastens inside the case.

Subject: Re: [6pack] TR6 speedometer needle
Al,
I pulled mine off while refurbing my speedo. I don't think I caused any
damage pulling it off or pushing it back on since it works fine now. The only
"oops" in the deal is I screwed up the calibration and it reads 10mph fast.
Something else I now need to add to the winter to do list.
I found out afterwards, there is a small white dot (looks like a paint spec)
at around 7 o'clock that is the calibration mark. When calibrating, the needle
stop must be first pulled (I believe it just pulls out), press on the needle
onto the shaft so the tip lines up with the calibration dot, rotate the needle
so you can press the needle stop back in and reassemble the glass and bezel.
