This is the close-enough gauge I have always used:
20 = 10 - 2000 in 1st gear is 10 MPH.
20 = 20 - 2000 in 2nd gear is 20 MPH
20 = 30 - 2000 in 3rd gear is 30 MPH
20 = 40 - 2000 in 4th is 40 mph
This is INDICATED SPEED on the speedo.
Actual speed is a function of gearing and tire size.

Sounds good to me.
And if you have tires that are 26.5 inches tall (more or less) then your
actual speed is 70 MPH.
If you have 23 inch tires, then your actual speed is more like 57.5 MPH.
Not that many folks on this list run 23 inch tires, of course.
