That is exactly it.
What is "PI"? petrol injected?
I forget...

it was suggested to just keep the tank and plug up the one vent pipe
with a vacuum hose end cap. i guess that would be better than dealing
with an aftermarket tank.

i could then have mine cleaned (boiled) and covered inside.
