Assuming that the transmission is working properly the easiest way to determine 
which type of OD you have is to take the car out for a drive, put it in second 
gear and switch the OD on.  If you get another gear you have an A type OD.  If 
you don't you have a J type OD.  Works for me, says the guy with the A type OD.
