A visual inspection from several angles revealed I needed a new ring gear when
my flywheel was off during the clutch job. No idea when the ring gear was
last changed. Word to the wise, your flywheel must be re-balanced if it is
lightened. I did not take the machine shop's recommendation that it should be
okay. A truck driveline specialist made it right.
Doing it again, I would
go aluminum flywheel. If you shop a bit you can get a more reasonable price.
Only question, does this much weight off only work if you balance the crank
and clutch?
I've had a gear reduction starter on for 3-4 years. A noticable
improvement in starting, but, I wonder if these higher torque starters are
harder on ring gears?
