Chuck, list, If I understand your question correctly, you want to remove
fender flares that are glassed (laminated) directly onto the metal. Paint
removers that contain methylene chloride will soften polyester resin, the most
commonly used resin in "fiberglass". (More correctly called glass reinforced
plastic. or GRP.) The same resin is used in most body fillers (Bondo.) Its
nasty stuff- observe all proper safety precautions- safety goggles, gloves,
etc. My strategy would be to apply it to the edge where the fiberglass is
feathered into the metal , its thinnest area. From there, you can probably
scrape and pry the lamination away slightly, and work more remover between the
metal and glass. Eventually the whole flare should get loose enough to peel
off. Could be a long, tedious process, but probably better and cheaper than
grinding. There's a hood (bonnet) just listed tonight on eBay- may or may not
suit your needs.
