Bill:
The TR3B had the larger engine and the TR4 tranny, which is to
say it has a synchromesh first gear. Triumph never called it the TR3B,
that was a designation used by enthusiasts. In fact it was simply an
update of the technology used on the TR3A.
The TR3A was, however, an official designation used to denote
the modest restyling of the TR3. The 3A had a wider grill, and different
doors with external door handles, plus a few other minor tweaks.
I suppose the TR3B would be the most desirable of the bunch,
given more power and a better transmission.
