Chris:
Looking at my wiring diagram, it would seem more likely that in
removing the alternator connection at the battery you disturbed one of
the other connections. Depending on the year of your car, there are a
couple of different connections at the battery junction that if
disturbed would result in a no-start condition.
You were fortunate that it didn't start. In my experience
running the engine with the alternator disconnected will likely result
in failure of one or more alternator diodes, and thus a permanent
"no-charge" condition.

after installing a new alternator and confirming that it can producing

charge I thought I would try something. I disconnected the brn lead at
the
battery connection . This is the same brn lead coming from the
alternator.
The car would not even turn over, no click , nothing at all. If I put
the brn
lead back on the connector near the battery , it starts and all is fine
EXCEPT
for there is still no charge.
Question : by disconecting the alternator lead WHY would the car not
even
turn over ? Is there a break somewhere I can't see ?
