Thanks to all the replies. I heard back from Palo Alto - $245 to convert
the tach and maintaining stock looks.

Chuck:

What is the Mallory model number for either dual point or Unilite? I
searched the Summit site and didn't know if I needed the series 45, 46 or
47. A Mallory part number would help even more.

For those who are wondering, Moss sells the dual point and the Unilite with
the latter selling for over $200 more.

lots have done it. Insides can be changed. You need a way to drive the
tach, Mallory dizzy will not [an msd ignition box is most common, I use a
crane]. You can get the dizzt for a lot less at Summit racing [or pitstop
usa or jegs or most other speed shops].. I have one if you need a model
number. You need to get a lucas dog drive, drill a hhole in the right place
in the dissy and install the dog [I have yet to do that part].

Since I went to the triple Webers, I don't have any vacuum advance. The
mechanical advance isn't even working in my stock distributor. My local LBC

consultant has suggested the dual point Mallory system sold by Moss. He has
no direct experience with it, but would like to see me give it a try. Off
course, there's no drive to spin the tach cable in the Mallory unit, so Moss

has a note telling us an electronic tach is needed with this setup. I
emailed Palo Alto Speedometer to ask if my original Smith unit can be
changed on the inside to run as an electronic unit, but that was just today.

Anyone have any experience with the Mallory unit and/or an electronic
tachometer in their TR?
