Cary:
I haven't tried what you suggest; I took my original top with a
couple of small rips in it to an auto upholstery shop and asked for some
repairs. To replace a couple of snaps and two small tears was $200, so I
opted to simply replace the top.
When they start getting ratty, it seems like it would be an
uphill battle to keep them repaired, since it seems that the vinyl would
be getting fragile from age. That is just my sense of it, not based on
experience. I can't imagine that a vinyl repair kit could yield the
durability or the looks needed for a decent repair. Functional yes,
cosmetically acceptable, no. Maybe you will find out differently. Let us
know....
Cheers,
Vance

Subject: Couple More Questions
<snip>
Also, There are a couple of rips in my top (about 1" in length) that I
would
like to patch rather than replace the whole top. Does anyone make any
patch
kits that will blend in with the grain and not look horrible??
Thanks to everyone for the help. I am almost done with the project and
I
couldn't have done it without the help of everyone on the board.
Especially: Vance Navarette, Bob Lang, Stan Foster, Todd Bermudez, and
Dick
Taylor. I think these guys have answered just about every question I
have
asked. Once again thank you, and hopefully I'll be done bothering you
soon!
