With the big 3 wanting $570 + shipping for a new tank, I'm anxious to restore
my old one. It looks like a DPO had the tank lead soldered at a radiator
shop. This had to be some time ago as I'm told no one uses lead anymore.
Bill Hirsch Automotive of Newark will send you a 3 part kit for $25 + shipping
that will clean, etch and coat small tanks up to 30 gallons. Their tank
coating is supposed to even work with alcohol. They also sell a rust paint
that I could use on the outside.
I could take it to a rad shop that will do the cleaning and coating for
$100-150. Don't know which chemicals they would use.
The factory put a layer of felt under the tank to deaden the rattling I
suppose. Is there a better alternative?
Experiences and advice appreciated.
Thank you, Bruce Simms CF1941UO
