Hi Ross (or is it Anne):

I am running 205/75/15 Coker Classic 3/8" redlines on my 72 TR6. I had been
concerned that they were out of round etc. However since straightening my rims,
it appears that the problem has been solved.

I was not sure if the red line was just a strip of rubber vulcanised in a
groove machined in the side of the tire. However, I had the misfortune to run
over a piece of metal on the highway early last year. It cut a groove 3/8" wide
and 1/8" deep right up the outside sidewall of the tire. In the gouge, you
could plainly see (I can take a picture if anybody is interested) that the red
rubber seems to cover a large part of the side of the tire beneath the black
outer layer.

I drove all last season with that gouge. Last week when re-mounting my tires on
my newly straightened rims( ! ) I poked at the wall of the tire from the inside
opposite of the gouge. You could clearly see the bottom of the gouge bulging
from finger pressure. I decided that the gods had clearly shown pity on my
stupidity all last season and I ordered another tire. Presently running with
one spare that a fellow Montreal list member contributed to the cause (thanks
Patrick).

So my faith in the Cokers, which was beginning to wane with the constant
shaking, has started to revive now that the underlying cause seems not to have
been them.

Cheers,

Mark

I need to replace my Michelin X Redlines. Coker has a redline tire for 2/3
the price of Michelin and Diamond Back offers something else, I believe. I
would appreciate any comments about tires for my 1976 TR6 that help
determine best price, appearance and performance. Reasons based on recent
practical experience most valuable.
