Rebuilding Fuel sending unit need source for 36 Guage Nichrome

Hello,

I am rebuilding the fuel sending unit in the fuel tank.  I need a source for 
the 36 guage nichrome resistance wire.  The resistance needs to be about 26-27 
ohms per foot.  The nichrome wire cannot be bare.  Has anyone attempted or 
successfully rewound the resistance wire?

I could use 26 guage magnet wire, but I would not have as many turns because of 
the larger diameter.
