Felt and Carpet

I'm working on installing some new carpet and underfelt in my car. does
anyone have any instructions on the proper installation methods?

 

Also, anything I should take care of while the carpet is out?  I'm planning
to change the transmission fluid and replace the speedometer cable while
it's easy to access.
