Ian, One possibility for the long pedal travel, could it be that the adjusters need to be snugged up after the drums were turned? Usually if the booster is not operating, the brakes work, but with more pedal effort. There may be other reasons for the increase in travel, but the adjusters were the first to come to my mind.
