First, let me say "Thanks" to all that have replied to my original message. I
REALLY appreciate all your feedback. I live in South Carolina and here I will
be able to drive my car year round. Weather is very nice in the 'Upstate' and
I think I will get good service from the top.
My next question has to do with the chrome surround on the bottom lip of the
top. Do you all have the chrome strips in place? My top did NOT come with
them, sadly. I looked at Roadster Factory and they have replacements but I was
wondering if the are an absoloute necessity. Just wondering...
One of the suggestions was to properly insulate the top. Since I am doing a
frame-off on my TR6, right now I am putting the car back together. I have
purchased Dynamat and have used that quite extensively in the body shell. It
is amazing how nice that stuff is. It has taken out the 'tin' sound of the
car. I am hoping to use that stuff on the top. It will be expensive, but if I
can make the car quieter then it is worth it.
Oh, what I REALLY need to ask is this: I just got through with quite an
expensive paint job. I have a small fortune in paint, labour and time. So,
when one puts the top on does it scratch the surface of the paint, or does it
mount in an area that would be covered by the soft top? I realize I will need
to replace all the rubber on the bottom of the top (there is a strip and two
rubber bumpers). I just wonder if there is a trick at properly mouting this
thing...
again guys, thanks for your input on this. I am really looking forward to
getting my car on the road. I estimate it is about another 2 months from being
finished!
Regards,
joe
