A few weeks ago I posted a thread about an electrical problem that had me
totally baffled. When I would turn on any of the exterior lights (headlamps,
park lights, brake lights, turn signals) the engine would die. One by one I
went
through all wires and light sockets looking for a short or ground fault. I
thought I had it cured by replacing the dimmer switch, but the problem came
back. After going through everything again for the umpteenth time I
disconnected
the the ground cable from the battery to see if it would run on the alternator
alone. Not only would it run but I could turn on all lights without
stalling. When i would reconnect the cable to the battery the engine would
stall. I
replaced the battery -problem solved. I thought I would share this as someone
else might run into a similar problem. Even with a faulty battery the gear
reduction starter would spin the motor with great vigor.
