Bruce,

Based on emails I've had with a number of well established people in the
business the answer is an emphatic YES!

Peter Cox of Triumphtune/Moss UK recommended that I use the heaviest springs
in the set and set total advance to 32 degrees, as I recall.

Modifying the distributor advance requires either adding a small piece of
tubing to the post to decrease the advance or, as this article mentions,
different plates that have specific degrees advance.  This article is very
informative and finally shed some light on distributor re-curving for me.
