The answer depends on what year you bought the car. As you may know, the
dollar/pound relationship was quite volitile in the '70's. So, you may
have been able to purchase a new TR6 in '71 for $3500 (ref. Consumer
Reports article "the under $3500 GT"). My Father purchased CF14111U in
April '74 and paid nearly $6k. Granted, the car had nearly all the
"add-ons" except: michelin x's, hardtop and overdrive, but it had luggage
rack, stripes, bumper over-riders, am/fm (not stereo!) and dealer applied
undercoating.
Toward the end, the last '76's probably sold for a bit more, maybe another
$1k because of the dollar/pound thing.

I hope this helps (and I'm _pretty sure_ I got the numbers right).
