Another data point in the debate is that carbs use the venturi effect
to create a low pressure area that draws the fuel into the airstream. This
is done by putting properly shaped restrictions in the path of the incoming
air.
Fuel injection does not need to use any of the energy of the intake air to
provide the fuel and air mix, so a less restricted, more efficient path into
the cylinder can be had with injected motors. More air goes in, more power
comes out. And some of that power goes into injecting the fuel into the
intake charge.
