Mark reminded a lister who recomended the use of air..
I would first have the cylinder piston at tdc
Keep in mind that putting pressure in the cylinder will try to move the
piston to BDC - be careful.

A little "footnote" to this would be that the transmission should be in
gear, AND the handbrake set. To keep the car from rolling up on your
Nikes.
