Jim,

I think that depends on what you want to use it for.  Most air tools
(chisels, sprayers, wrenches, etc.) require a significant amount of air and
at least for the HVLP Paint sprayers, will require a much higher cfm to be
useful.

I must preface this by saying that I don't own one but that's what I've been
told.  I'm sure that someone else wiser that I will join in.
