Stan,
I may not be in the majority of opinion, but the "Strombergs" are
generally a very reliable carb. In addition, they can easily be rebuilt
back to a very serviceable condition,
Also, it is much cheaper to keep what you have then it is to looking for
more ways to spend money on a car "chasing" good carburation.
The Buckeye Triumph website is the best place to get info on rebuilding
the carb.

Just to venture a couple of guesses, it sounds as if you have holes in
the "diaphragms"(lean mixture at cruising speed, and lean acceleration),
and very likely "bypass valves" that are in need of adjustment (bypass
valves not seating can be the cause of fast idle 2000-2500 rpm).
