My vinyl top is also pretty hard to put up in cool weather.
I've heard that some owners have loosened the body attachments under the 
rear section of the body and added
thin washers.  This simultaneously moves the whole convertible top forward 
and the narrows the top of the door gaps slightly (mine are wider at the 
top than bottom).  This is (yet) another thing that I need to work on....
