As you well may know, these steering columns aren't the most precision of
equipment,especially with wear over the years so you might try loosening the
screws, pushing the signal unit closer toward the steering shaft then
retighten the unit so the little clip on cam that is on the shaft will have
a better chance to actuate it off.
It worked for me.
