        Any cam grinder and most auto machine shops can test the lifters for 
you.
Elgin cams, for example, recommends that you send them your lifters along with
the core for reconditioning and hardening.

Stupid question- how do you tell if new lifters are too soft (before you run
them for several thousand miles)?
