Hi all,
When I bought my 1969 TR6 in 1984 besides the fact that the only functioning
mechanical system was the differential and much of the electricals were
screwed up, the body nor frame had any cancerous rust. Mind you it wasn't
pretty (and still isn't) but there is no cancer. So I figured that it was a
saver.
But this story is with the horn. So i'll try to get to it. The previous
owner jury-rigged a horn button underneath the dash. The horn push,
although working, was badly crazed and ugly. There was no horn brush. And
I recently found out that the horn ring was destroyed.
The horn ring was easy to locate and replace. (I pulled one off a spare
steering column that I have.) In December on eBay I found an NOS Triumph
crest horn push: a beautiful piece. But the horn brush, a part that appears
to be unique to a 1969 TR6, was eluding me. After talking to many people
and a lot of research (much of which was contradictory) I came to believe
that the original Lucas horn brush was colored orange and extra long. And I
wanted an original.
In early March I finally found someone who said he had a few of these but I
couldn't get him to get around to sending me one. Disappointment set in by
the time May had arrived.
Then more out of dispair than actually thinking I'd find a solution I
thought I'd try a long shot. Motorhead LTD in Virginia really focuses on
MGs but I remembered passing by their old location in Arlington, VA all to
often 15 years ago. They used to have some Triumph stuff. So I decided to
track down their new phone number and give them a call.
Well, hurray !!! I went down there and bought it ($23, their last one).
Indeed it is exactly what my car has been wanting. I now have the horn
system functioning again for the first time in likely near 30 years. And it
is all original. Yeah !!!
Have a great weekend everyone! Beep beep!
Sincerely,
Dave Herebrt
