Threads stripped on Gearbox Spedo Cable Fitting

Does anyone have a good fix for repairing the stripped fine threads for the
speedo cable adaptor in the gearbox?
I have the gearbox out of the car and have noticed that the aluminum threads
are all stripped on the fiting that is inserted into the gearbox for the
speedo cable.
It looks like that section of the adapter is not sold separatly, I don't
really want to spend the money on the whole unit.
Any ideas?
