Bob,
You may have gotten involved with the chase and forgotten about your
goal. I'm not a 250 guy, but $7,000 for a car with that much rust that
you KNOW about...? If your going to restore a car, and that's what
you'll end of doing (BTDT), go with one that is basically sound but
cheap. Say in the $1,500-$2500 area. Then you can invest in it and not
be way out of line in what you have in it. The worst thing you can do is
pay top dollar for a car and then restore it. Ask me how I know...

I have been chasing a nice TR250 in my neighborhood
for over 10 years now. Typical proud owner has been
reluctant to sell, until recently. I have been
steadily increasing my offers over the past few
months. Finally he has agreed to a price where he
will sell it and of course I think it is a little high considering some
problems I discovered. As I have been only playing with Healeys and the
seller is stubborn I thought I could ask the list for some ideas of a
fair price.

The good points on the car are the low mileage (54k),
the original top and interior are still nice except
the drivers carpet is gone. Beautiful paint still on
the tops of the floors and trunk. Since the car was
always parked in the corner of the garage I never
looked any closer for rust. . .until a few days ago
when I got my first test drive. I already knew it had
some bubbling on the doglegs and tops of rear fenders,
but was shocked to find that the right front fender
was seperated from the inner rocker and many larege
chunks of rust fell out! The owner was also suprised
and told me the car had come from Indiana where over
half of the miles were put on. He told me to take my
time and figure out what I think is a fair offer.

Any opinions about the expense and difficulty of
replacing the inner rocker would be helpful as well as
guidance regarding a fair price to offer. This is a
car I really want to buy and am not looking to steal
it, as I have already offered 7k and the car
additionally needs tires, brakes and the usual sorting
out from sitting.

Thanks to all who can help.

Bob
