Been following this list for yr or two now and have been amazed at volumn of
info that is availiable here (not even limited to LBC content ie. weather
conditions, ethics of ebay bidding, gas prices, politics etc.). I'm looking
for advice on my transmission & OD. I have 1970 GT6 with rebuilt "hotted up"
2lt six backed up by a rebuilt transmission (from VB) and the original OD. I
built the engine but I have always been leery of working on gearboxes. It
took three boxes from VB before I got one that "worked" and even this one is
noisy and leaves an awful lot of metal other than bronze on the magnetic
drain plug but the real problem is the fluid leakage. I'd like to put my
interior back in but given amount of fluid that winds up in drip pan it
doesnt make sense to. I have pulled trans&OD to find & plug some of these
holes. The major leak appears to have been where two studs were stripped out
between gearbox & od adapter. Holes have now been helicoiled and I plan to
use teflon tape on all these studs, the studs from adapter to od, and any
other stud or bolt that doesnt go into a blind hole on the rest of trans. Am
I right in that there are no gaskets between the front od casing to brake
ring and brake ring to rear casing interfaces? If so is there a suggested
sealant for these faces? Can I replace the rear seal in the od from the
outside? Should I even consider separating the od cases or is that just
opening a can of worms given that the od appears to be working fine?
Shouldnt' the speedometer drive just pull out after removing the locating
bolt? Thanks in advance for any info.
