To answer your question...metal polishing, (done properly), is very time
consuming.
There is a big difference between polished...and POLISHED to a fine
luster.
You may find a local polishing shop that would charge far less than we
would.
The black cover shown is priced as anodized...they could be powder
coated as well.
Powder coating would not last as long as anodizing. They can be anodized
in many different colors.

I've got a couple of questions and please understand I know nothing of
the design or manufacturing process for these valve covers.
1)Is the polishing process that labor intensive ($290 difference or 6
times the unpolished cover)?
2)Are the blue and black colors painted (powder coated) on or is the
color impregnated, as in the anodized look? Would other colors, such as
red or yellow be available?
