I redid the rubber bumpers last year on my 76. I took them off and wet sanded
them until they were smooth..used three grades of sandpaper, them sprayed
them with black bumper paint. They look great and still come up nice with
black rubber polish.

I guess I didn't communicate this well. Where I was headed with this
idea was a complete re-finishing of these eye sores. I'd deep-six these
things after my bumper chrome job is complete but my wife thinks they're
just "darling"! Has anyone ever roughed them up a bit for a new
application paint job and how did they turn out? Of course, I'm not even
going to think of ordering new ones.
Old bullets on a new chrome job isn't going to look too hot! Maybe my
wife will see the light.
