Geez, Jeff. That's certainly different than most who have broken the
cable, or its handle. My suggestion here to opening the bonnet, without
damaging it by prying, would be to purchase one or more of those large
suction cups (five inchers?) that are sometimes sold to hold glass panes
during installation. Place the cup right over bonnet's latch area, and
attach whatever you can to facilitate lifting the bonnet. These things
have tremendous lifting power! Note that there should be a very stout
handle on the cup.
