My 4-wheel (also read CV Joint rebuilder)shop told me they do NOT put zerks
in the axel shafts on 4 wheelers because the hole for the zerk weakens the
web. Might be why they say the older ones (sans zerk) are better. Of
course that also forces you to take them apart and inspect/grease them once
in a while.

Jon---No grease fittings on the later water pumps.
On the U-joints, I have found the combo of the longer Zerk fittings,
BACKED OUT to where it almost falls out, will allow the grease gun to
fit over the end of the fitting. Remember to then screw the fitting(s)
back down.
Some original type U-joints did not have any fittings. Some say these
are the best kind, altho I wouldn't know why.
