If you have a late model car your brake light is coming on because you EGR
(emissions counter) has reached a certain number and it is reminding you to
check your emissions equipment. The counter is a small white plastic box
located under the hood near the wiper motor. On the passenger side of the
box (I'm sure purposely put there to make it impossible to see) there is a
very small reset pin that has to be turned until the numbers in the window
are back to zero. There is a tool that will fit into the two very small
holes and allow you to turn it, but a small section of a paper clip bent to
fit the holes will work. You will have to make the clip too small to hold
with your hands so use pliers.
