Steve---Some of the older cars vented the fuel tank thru the vent hole
in the gas cap. This would be the same as running a hose fom the top of
the tank to atmosphere. It guess it depends on how your new tank allows
for venting. If it has a tube coming out of it as the original one did,
you could connect it up and then vent the other end of this hose to a
port on a carburetor that  sees no measureable manifold vacuum. Or, make
a hose fitting on the air filter housing, downstream of the filters.
Last choice but the simplest, would be reverting to the way things used
to be. Let the hose hang down at a convenient point.
