Remember all, more flow doesn't necessarily heaps more power (that isn't to
say that getting more air into the cylinder doesn't yield more power). What
your heads "flow" on the flow bench IS NOT representative of how your head
operates when bolted on top of your engine. Most of your machine shops can
not mimic flow reversion, resulting from the valves closing, nor can they
recreate your piston dwell at the top of the cylinder. Currently, the trend
for various port shapes is yielding greater results than overall port
diameter.
If you're looking for a bit more power, I wouldn't pass your local machine
shop by. If you're a racer looking to win all, you're going to spend major
money to have your head seriously reworked by someone specializing in
current head porting technology (some of the newer "pulsating" flow benches
are quite expensive!).
