In addition to dim bulbs there is also the possibility that the inside of
your lenses are a bit grimy and the reflective paint has peeled off the
concave bulb reflectors. I removed both tailight units last summer, cleaned
the inside of the lenses, and repainted the reflective surfaces with
reflective paint. It made quite a difference and I definitely felt more
visibile. The left side lens was especially dirty since it gets hit
directly with the exhaust. FWIW!
