Hi,

As you have all discovered, the TR6 frame is fairly flexible. Adding the
body to the frame adds some more rigidity, but not much.

To answer the question posed: "should I install the driveline
components?", I would say "no".

However, if you have the Bentley factory manual reprint, you will notice
in the back somewhere under "body and frame" that there is a very complete
chart with measurements. If you do frame repairs as part of a frame-off
restoration, you would be well served to take the time to make all these
measuments as accuarately as possibly before you put the body back on the
frame - as it is a lot easier to correct things before you put the body
back on.

Failing that, a competent frame shop with experience working on Triumphs
should be able to correct a lot of frame problems that can crop up in the
process.

Bottom line: the frame repairs _should_ be done on a flat table, the frame
should then be "tweaked" for alignment. Then you can add driveline stuff
and the drop the body on. After all, this is how the car was manufactured.
And, yes, you can then use the body shims to set your door aligment and
panel fit to get the door gaps correct. And a resounding "yes", the body
flexes a lot when you use the floor jack and floor stands to raise the car
and "yes" the body will "re-align" itself when you put it back on the
ground when you're done working on / storing the car.

regards,
rml

p.s. if you think your car flexes sitting on stands all winter, you should
try driving the car at the limit into a fast corner... next time you look
at a race car you'll understand why there are so many tubes in the "cage".
Triumphs are "flexible". But honestly _all cars_ are flexible to some
extent.
