Geoff---It is true that there are more water "holes" in the head than in
the block. It might be a casting (clean out) necessity, but I'm really
not sure. Maybe someone else can offer up. Just be certain that the new
gasket is installed correctly, tag towards the rear, and torque this
puppy down. The proper gasket for your engine will have the thick,
steel O-rings around each cylinder bore. This style gasket is to match
the counterbore, machined into the block. Kind of extra insurance
against blow out.
