The hard substance should be dampening material.  You will find it on the
flat surface, on the vertical surface directly behind the seats, and if
memory serves, one piece on the floor near the vertical surface.  When you
break it off, is should be black underneath.

These sheets are available through the big-3, or you can get some asphalt
roofing material, and use that.  As for my frame off, I took it all off, and
replaced it.  The reason was to ensure that water hadn't caused problems
under the dampening material.

I have found a hard plastic substance on the
parcel shelf, under the carpet/felt on my TR 6.
It is very brittle and comes off easily, I have
never read anything about this on the list, it
seems original
painted original car color, do I remove it? I will
be doing a body off .
