Dick,
thanks for the reply.  Took a dremel to it and knife edged it as best I 
could.  Putting everything back together and running the car, I definitely 
had a "seat of the pants" improvement in acceleration.  This could be just 
perception, but the acceleration does feel more urgent and the plugs for the 
first time were closer to being the same in appearance (color and "moisture" 
(I know, I know...)).
