Halogen dash bulbs?

I was just about to post a note to the group about ways to brighten my dash
for night driving, when I came across some folks discussing halogen
replacement bulbs on the general Triumphs list. Seems lots of folks like
them.

Anybody specific to 6/250 cars tried them? How safe, since these things get
really hot, and any electrical worries to go with it?
