Dick-15 qts. of oil! Ok, that's only 500 mi/qt, about what a jag would do
after a rebuild. Were you oiling the road or fogging for mosquitos?
In addition to the parts mentioned, I would add the following: Front wheel
bearing kit, fuel pump kit or inline electric pump, carb diaphragms, 3/8" npt
pipe plug and 1/2" plug to replace the heater control valve, clutch master
cyl. spring, maybe a couple of valve springs for the really paranoid, water
pump, a short section of jumper wire, and a tow rope. I have never needed
these parts, but they do provide peace of mind, as do a cell phone and auto
club membership. Thanks to the availability of parts and overnight delivery,
even a breakdown in a remote area is mostly an inconvenience
Probably, the best "insurance" is a well maintained and frequently driven
car. Having said that, I sure my 6 will self destruct at the first
opportunity.
Getting there is half the fun-breakdowns become fond memories.
