Nelson is right in his reason for the taper in the casting.
NOW, for ALL those that are using the cast pedestals with a high profile
camshaft and ,or up-rated valve springs....THEY WILL FAIL!!!! The high lift
and added spring rate is too much for the cast pedestal. I was told (and
disregarded) this very thing as I built my first National engine and paid
dearly for that error. If you Auto-X or run your car hard you have been
warned.
