There lots of small differences and the J shaft may not fit you box/gears.
Major areas are use bronze gear bushes pre 73 and size of mainshaft tip.
Also be aware that later syncro hubs (they have a better back cut & are
found in steel bushed boxes ) have lighther springs that go with heavier
springs in the top housing. Don't mix and match
Both A & J types are available in a variety of ratios.
To get more use out of your o/d use a Dolly Sprint layshaft & 2st gear, &
TR6 input shaft. This gives a better ratio spread and allows 3rd o/d to be a
good split .
