Hi All
I took my 2000 MKI saloon to our local autox meeting a couple of weeks ago,
first time ever, for both of us. Did the wrong route the first run then four
good runs had a blast! (venue limit 5 runs) Helped a friend load his special
onto a trailer then went home. Got the news letter this weekend, I should have
stayed to collect first in class! I thought I was well off the pace.
Other cars were
Toyota (with 2 different drivers)
Vauxhall Cavalier New type FWD (2different drivers)
Mitsubishi? Colt
Ford Capri
Fiat Saloon (lada shape)

I also placed 13 over all out of 29. So all in all a very surprising weekend
with a mainly standard 1968 saloon car.
Modifications are 3.45:1 diff instead of 4.11:1 Fitted when I was using the
car for continental touring to keep the revs down. (doesn't do much for the
acceleration.)
A stainless sports exhaust, Cheaper than the standard one (do I need a better
excuse).
MKII rear suspension, a couple of inches wider than the original. Original was
shot and I had the MKII in my shed.
Poly bushes as the 30 YO originals were understandably shot.
These are all the mods. I entered the standard class safe in the knowledge I
was in a very uncompetitive car and had no chance to win, oops! This is a
point and squirt event relying on acceleration. The question to those in the
know, should I have been in the modified class with the 4.1 litre V8 grass
track specials based on the list of mods above. If so I will hand back the
class win and re-register in the other class.
Thanks for your time.

Graham.
